Socialism Books

Below is a list of books I have read or want to read. For the ones I have read, I have included a brief description of how they have helped me understand and appreciate socialism. They’re all kindle books, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting hold of them.

One of the earliest texts on socialism. A short, simple read.

A very dense book in places, but it does tackle the problems with captialism well. Volume I is a must read for anyone serious in helping to get us to Utopia.

Read this before reading Capital. It helped me a lot in laying the ground work for how industry developed and operates, and it’s pretty easy reading.

Anyone with a serious intention in tackling capitalism needs to understand it first. This book will help.

I’ve included this one because I still think we should be having deflation, not inflation. Of course, the capitalists don’t like that, but maybe there’s something in it.

A third way proposed for economic organisation, contrary to contemporary economics and centralised planning. Also gives a good critique of what’s already been tried.

A contribution similar to the one proposed by Pat Devine. And from the USA.

A contribution by Karl Marrx’s friend. Not read it yet.

Speaks for itself. Not read it yet.

Although not an advocate of socialism, it does outline the problems with past attempts. This will be helpful if we want to do it properly.

A contemporary contribution in support of Marx.

Fabiam socialism is socialism without revolution, which is acheived gradually. Not read it yet.

First-hand account of the Russian revolution as it happened.

A passionate attack on capitalism.

Helped me link what Marx said in Captial with the movements of the Russian Revolution.

If you’re new to politics (UK politics), this book will help you understand the difference between the right and the left, and those in-between.
